Our Mission
We “Style for Stability”
to help end the cycle of homelessness.
Through thoughtful trauma-informed design, we transform houses into homes for individuals and families transitioning from homelessness into permanent supportive housing.
By providing new furniture and personalized, grounding environments, we aim to foster independence, dignity, and serenity.
Our vision
At Tori in the House, we envision a world where every individual has a safe, stable, and nurturing home.
We believe that:
Equity is the foundation of stability. By addressing systemic inequities and supporting communities disproportionately affected by homelessness, we create a more just and compassionate society.
Sustainability is key to transformation. We partner with like-minded collaborators to save lightly imperfect furniture from landfills while furnishing homes with high-quality, lasting pieces.
Compassion drives lasting change. Trauma-informed design isn’t just about furniture—it’s about empowering individuals to thrive in environments where they can heal, grow, and rebuild their lives.
Together, with our collaborators and community, we’re turning houses into homes and building a brighter, more equitable future for all.

Founded in 2024 by Tori Hobson, Tori in the House was born from a passion for interior design and a commitment to equity, sustainability, and compassion.
Our mission is to create healing, grounding spaces that help end the cycle of homelessness, foster stability, and promote greater equity in the world.
a Lifelong Commitment to Service:
The seeds of Tori in the House were planted in Tori’s childhood, inspired by her late mother, who co-founded a foster family agency. Summers spent volunteering with the agency’s Therapeutic Learning Center instilled a deep compassion for children in the foster care system.
This commitment to service grew as Tori spent 2.5 years volunteering on the world’s largest non-governmental hospital ship in West Africa, leading a team at The Hope Centre to provide pre- and post-op care for patients in need. Her journey continued with volunteering for the Rose of Sharon Children’s Foundation, Lifelong in Seattle, and Community First Village in Austin.
It was at Community First Village where Tori in the House truly took root. For the housewarming of the first resident, Dan*, Tori gifted a plant and a handcrafted letterpress card. The thoughtful gift evoked such a strong and excited response from Dan* that Tori went home and began researching what is now known as “trauma-informed design.”
Her research revealed the grounding power of plants and their ability to provide stability and healing, especially for individuals transitioning out of homelessness. Plants offer not only a nurturing presence but also a sense of responsibility and care—key elements in fostering growth and stability. This moment became the catalyst for the mission of Tori in the House: to create environments that empower individuals to thrive in their new homes.
